A Q&A With Andrii Hrytsai
Winner of the World of Spray Roses Festive Design Video Competition.
Late last year, we celebrated incredible creativity from florists around the world during our annual World of Spray Roses Festive Competition. We were delighted to award the video competition title to Andrii Hrytsai, whose vibrant and expressive design captured both technical skill and artistic emotion.
Originally from Ukraine and now based in Slovakia, Andrii has built an inspiring floral career driven by passion, colour exploration, and a deep connection to customer experience. His work beautifully demonstrates how spray roses can transform a bouquet, adding richness, texture, and personality.
We spoke with Andrii about his journey into floristry, his competition design, and the trends he is seeing in his work.
I began my journey as a florist 10 years ago in Kyiv, Ukraine. Today, I am the owner of a flower shop in the most beautiful city in Slovakia, Košice. I don’t plan to stop here, because for me, the most important thing is growth: developing my skills, exploring new ideas, and constantly evolving my business.
What do you do most, events or shop work?
I am mainly focused on shop work. I truly love creating bouquets and seeing the happy faces of my clients when they come to collect their orders; those moments inspire me the most.
How did you come up with your design?
I was given a brief by a client to create an unusual bouquet featuring blue tulips mixed with other flowers. With full creative freedom and my love for unconventional colour combinations, I chose to complement the design with orange spray roses and a touch of ilex for a distinctive accent. The result created genuine excitement for the client.
Have you always been passionate about flowers, particularly roses?
I have always been fascinated by flowers, but roses hold a special place in my heart. Their elegance, wide variety of colours, and endless possibilities for combinations inspire me to create unique bouquets that bring joy and emotion. To me, every rose is a little work of art.
Have you noticed an increase in the use of spray roses in weddings and events?
Yes, I have noticed a clear increase in the use of spray roses at events recently. More and more people want these elegant and expressive flowers at their weddings and celebrations. They add volume, rich colour, and create a special atmosphere of warmth and sophistication.
Why do you personally enjoy incorporating spray roses into your designs?
Spray roses are a true gem in my designs. They make bouquets richer and more layered, give me freedom to experiment with colour and form, and their small blooms bring a sense of delicacy and harmony to every arrangement.
Do you have a favourite spray rose variety?
I love all flowers, but if I had to choose my favourite spray rose varieties, they would be Misty Bubbles, Silva Pink, Emma Woodhouse, and Gelato.
Have you observed a rise in demand for spray roses in your work? Why do you think that is?
Yes, I have noticed a significant rise in demand for spray roses. I believe this is because people increasingly appreciate elegant and expressive flowers that can create full, layered bouquets. Spray roses are perfect for this; they are versatile, beautiful, and add elegance and harmony to any arrangement.
What trends are you seeing in your 2026 bookings?
In 2026, I am noticing an exciting trend: clients are increasingly seeking unique and personalised bouquets that reflect their personality and style. Spray roses, unconventional colour and texture combinations, and light, airy arrangements are particularly popular, creating a cosy and harmonious atmosphere at any event. For me, it is an inspiring challenge to craft bouquets that not only delight the eye but also evoke emotion.
For me, floristry is not just a job; it is a way to bring joy and emotion to people through flowers. Seeing my clients’ smiles when they receive their bouquets is the greatest reward.
Flowers are the language of emotions. Through them, you can say “I love you”, “congratulations”, or “thank you”. I am happy that my work allows me to give people these moments of joy.
Congratulations, Andrii, on your wonderful winning design. It was a pleasure to learn more about your journey, and we truly enjoyed our conversation. We look forward to seeing more of your creative work with spray roses in the future.
