A Life In Bloom: Djordje Varda, World Of Spray Roses’ Ambassador
We knew almost immediately this would be a fun and slightly unconventional article to write. Reaching out to Djordje Varda via WhatsApp seemed logical until his wonderfully direct reply landed: “Please call me. I hate texting.”What followed was a charming mix of missed calls and confused time zones. Undeterred, we started digging and uncovered the layered story of a truly unique and endlessly inspiring man.
A Life Between Cultures
Born in Belgrade, Djordje Varda spent his early years in 1970s Yugoslavia, a time he remembers as warm and cultured. The son of a television correspondent, he relocated to Paris at seven, growing up effortlessly between two worlds and two cultures.
Returning to Yugoslavia during its turbulent years left a lasting mark, and after two years and reflection, France became home, where a conventional career seemed the logical next step. Instead, a restless Djordje followed a path through luxury, fashion, and beauty. From the outside, life looked perfectly composed. Inside, something essential was missing.
From Restlessness to Revelation
Introspective by nature, Djordje found himself questioning his direction. He sought refuge in tending plants on his balcony, a simple ritual that brought calm and unexpected clarity. Without realising it, a new path began to take shape.
Just two months later, he took a leap. Leaving his former life behind for Montorgueil, he followed instinct and curiosity into what would become an exceptional floral career.
Island Life, Global Reach & Floral Freedom
Today, Djordje lives and works in St Barthélemy, drawn by light, pace, and creative freedom. Stepping away from the traditional flower shop model, he now works quietly from a small atelier near the ocean, creating immersive floral designs that transform spaces into moments.
Though island-based, his work spans the globe. From world capitals to tropical destinations such as St Barthélemy and Anguilla, Djordje creates floral experiences wherever his clients are. His journey has taken him from Chicago and Paris to New Delhi, Udaipur, and Moscow, each location approached with an instinctive understanding of place, atmosphere, and celebration. From intimate dining tables to events for thousands, Djordje Varda brings flowers to life with unmistakable elegance and intent.
World of Spray Roses Ambassador
With a career defined by instinct, scale, and emotion, it feels only natural that Djordje Varda’s journey would intersect with the World of Spray Roses. We are proud to have him as an ambassador, a designer whose creative language aligns seamlessly with the expressive nature of spray roses.
In 2025, that relationship took on a tangible form with the introduction of Rose Varda Carlton, a spray rose developed in collaboration with Interplant Roses BV, created especially for the iconic Carlton Cannes Hotel. Elegant yet characterful, the bloom reflects Djordje’s signature approach: layered, emotive, and unapologetically bold.
As a World of Spray Roses Ambassador, Djordje brings a fearless perspective to the category. Unbound by convention, he treats flowers as storytelling tools, much like spray roses themselves, a bloom celebrated for its versatility, movement, and personality. Together, they continue to redefine what a rose can be.
Djordje Varda – “The partnership with World of Spray Roses has opened up limitless possibilities for me in floral design. Creating a bespoke rose, the Varda Carlton, is the culmination of this collaboration, and this rose allows me to leave a unique mark that is now an integral part of the Carlton Cannes’ DNA. The public isn’t sufficiently aware of the beauty and variety of spray roses, their poetry, the tenderness they convey… I will continue to share my passion for these flowers and introduce them to a wider audience.”
Thank you, Djordje, for your time. Your kindness and passion are unmistakable, and we were just as inspired by your floral designs as by your incredible feat of completing a ten-day water fast. Next time, we insist the interview be held in person — in St Barthélemy, of course.
