Flora And Story: Where Flowers, People, And Stories Connect
Well, if there was ever an event to bring out the “green-eyed” monster, this was it, and honestly, even though we are a little bit jealous, it has been a delight to write about. We are always inspired by experiences that go beyond flowers themselves. Experiences that remind us floristry is not only about design but about people, emotion, storytelling, and connection.
This spring, internationally acclaimed wedding planner and designer Nadia Duran and Arabia Weddings brought a vision to life with the debut edition of Flora and Story, an extraordinary three-day immersive journey through the Netherlands that reimagined what floral education and networking can truly look like.
Rather than traditional conference rooms and lectures, participants were invited into the heart of the Dutch flower world itself, sailing through Amsterdam canals surrounded by thousands of spray roses, walking through greenhouses, dining with commercial flower farms, and connecting directly with the people behind some of the industry’s most beautiful blooms.
A Blooming Welcome in Amsterdam
The journey began during the vibrant celebrations of King’s Day in Amsterdam, instantly immersing guests in the colour, energy, and spirit of Dutch culture. Participants boarded a private canal boat transformed into a floating floral dream, adorned with 5,000 colourful spray roses, generously gifted by VOORN Spray Roses, a proud member of the World of Spray Roses.
Surrounded by cheering crowds, music, and the iconic canals of Amsterdam, guests experienced an unforgettable welcome. It was joyful, energetic, and unapologetically floral, exactly the kind of atmosphere spray roses were made for.
Hands-On Learning with Some of Floristry’s Leading Voices
Day two shifted towards creativity, education, and artistry inside the greenhouses at VOORN Spray Roses.
Design legend Tomas De Bruyne encouraged attendees to think about colour as emotion and storytelling, while Katya Hutter guided participants through cohesive floral compositions. Pascal M. offered fascinating insight into the incredible scale and sophistication of the Dutch floral distribution network.
But “Flora and Story” was never designed to be passive learning. Instead, participants stepped directly into the creative process during a high-level hands-on workshop using an extraordinary floral library supplied by an elite group of floral partners, including spray roses from VOORN Spray Roses.
For us at the World of Spray Roses, it was a joy to see spray roses woven throughout the entire experience. We could not help but feel like very proud parents.
Where Gastronomy and Floristry Met
One of the most unique aspects of Flora and Story was how seamlessly it blended floristry with gastronomy and sensory experience.
Guests enjoyed beautifully styled dining moments throughout the journey, including a garden-inspired lunch styled by Nadia Duran herself and a remarkable gala dinner curated by Chef Michael Cervino. Floral ingredients, edible blooms, botanical aromas, and artistic presentation transformed dining into an extension of the floral storytelling experience.
Tulip Fields, Innovation, and the Science Behind the Beauty
The final day took guests deep into the iconic Dutch landscape with a private visit to FAM Flower Farm. Surrounded by endless tulip fields closed exclusively for Flora and Story participants, guests wandered, cycled, danced, and absorbed the beauty of the Dutch countryside while accompanied by live violin music from Çisem Özkurt.
Later, the experience turned towards the innovation and technical excellence that continue to position the Netherlands as a global leader in floriculture. Behind-the-scenes visits to Kwekerij Vicini Hydrangeas and Phalaenopsis Orchids by Walter offered participants insight into the science, precision, and technology behind world-class flower production.
The journey concluded high above Amsterdam at LuminAir, where a sophisticated farewell dinner styled with 500 deep red roses by Bernhard Premium provided one final moment of connection, reflection, and celebration.
Rewriting the Future of Floral Education
What made Flora and Story truly special was their philosophy. This was not simply a floral masterclass. It was an immersive experience designed to create meaningful human connection, cultural understanding, creative inspiration, and emotional memory.
It reminded everyone involved that flowers are never just products. Behind every spray rose, every stem, every arrangement are growers, breeders, designers, storytellers, and passionate people working together to create beauty.
For the World of Spray Roses, that message feels incredibly close to home. Because when growers and creatives truly connect, something extraordinary happens. And Flora and Story captured that beautifully.
